Comcast limiting internet use for customers

Comcast is limiting customers to a monthly data threshold of 250 gigabytes per account (for residential accounts) per month.

I'm not sure how many gigs I use a month but one thing is for sure, I like not getting a "You have used up your allotment" message on my screen. I also know that I am probably way under 250 so even if I used Comcast this really wouldn't effect me. It's only going to hit those who download large media files constantly, most likely pirates. (Hey it's true)

Comcast to limit customers' broadband usage | Technology | Internet | Reuters

Customers who top 250 GB in a month twice in a six-month timeframe could have service terminated for a year.
Comcast said up to 99 percent of its 14 million Internet subscribers would not be affected by the new threshold, which it said would help ensure the quality of Internet delivery is not degraded by a minority of heavy users.
I don't use Comcast but I also don't necessarily disagree with this rule. I think they have the right to limit usage if they want. If customers have a problem with that they can go elsewhere.

I think customers should have the right to use their internet however they want as long as it's legal.

I am so glad that we don't have Comcast in the south. I would be pissed if they booted me. This will only help their competitors get more business.
Looks like it's time for Comcast to upgrade to handle the traffic.

Well bandwidth costs money, just like electricity, water and gas does for your house. Not to mention cell phone minutes. You can't just expect to pay a flat rate and use an infinite amount.

I'm with Comcast on this one.

Do you think this is aimed at Big time online gamers or people who run websites or online businesses from their homes?

I think if I was a big time user I would be looking for a new internet service provider.
Never liked Comcast to begin with.

I kind of am as well. I mean, I really don't pirate as I used to. Not even once a month...

Well then why don't they charge you for how much you use instead of charging everyone the same amount?

They sort of do. It doesn't need to be as complex as that though. There are home plans and commercial plans. If you need more bandwidth than a home plan offers then you should upgrade to a commercial/business plan.

I don't need more bandwidth. Why isn't there a cheaper option for people like me who will probably never come close to reaching the limit? Just another way for them to rip people off. Comcast is my least favorite company in the world.

Well, we have been thinking about dropping Comcast because it has really been sucking lately (and it is their fault, we called and they said they were having issues). Perhaps we should switch.
